Hidden Beaches of the Maldives
By Travelvania Team ·

The Maldives is famous for overwater villas, but some of its best moments happen on the local islands, where guesthouses cost a fraction of resort prices.
Where to go
- Thoddoo: a farming island with a public bikini beach and fresh watermelon stalls.
- Dhigurah: a long, narrow sandbar where whale sharks pass year-round.
- Fulidhoo: nurse sharks and stingrays gather at the harbour every evening.
When to visit
November to April brings calm seas and clear skies. The shoulder months of May and October are quieter and cheaper, with short afternoon showers.
Book local ferries a day ahead. Speedboats are faster, but the public ferry is half the fun.
